Exciting eh?? I can't wait! It'll be great to have him here for three weeks. For those of you who don't know, this is the first time he's even been on a plane. So, that will be interesting ha. Hopefully he makes it; think good thoughts for him.
Leaving Burkina in one and a half months. This fact is very difficult for me to grasp. Every time PCV friends from my training group bring it up, one of us ends up teary-eyed. Abruptly stopping my life for the past two years is not going to be easy. But, I know I will be ecstatic to get back to the States as well.
Two other PCVs and I have been planning a five-day long girls' camp in Dori, our regional capital. It will be next week from 23-27 June (meaning Noah will be here for it). We decided to target girls just finishing the 5th grade level, who will probably not be continuing on to secondary school. We'll focus on topics such as environmentally friendly technologies (e.g., energy-saving cook stoves), family planning, HIV/AIDS, self confidence, women's rights, and potential careers. The provincial director for girls' education is collaborating with us to make this work smoothly (as well as to share her own experience as a female growing up in Burkina), and we have invited four Burkinabe women (who have had little education) to come talk about their lives as shop and restaurant owners, policewomen, and midwives. I will definitely write more about the camp when it's all over.
